“Grow a beard”, they said. “It will be fun”, they said. Beard Itchiness has got to be the most annoying thing about having a beard. The constant itchiness, particularly at the beginning stages, will have you feeling like you could tear the whole thing off your face – well don’t! Try to also avoid over itching as it will cause strands to break and fall off. Beard itch is mainly caused by dead skin and dirt trapped in the beard hair – so of course if you take the proper steps in maintaining your facial hair you can keep the itching to a minimum.
Exfoliate the skin under the beard
It’s the build-up of dead skin cells that block your hair follicles and cause itch, razor bumps and ingrown hairs. Exfoliating keeps beard dandruff at bay, improves the texture of your skin and keeps your hair follicles clear and healthy, encouraging strong beard growth. Try exfoliating with a beard exfoliator brush - The brush will lift all the ready-to-flake skin from your face ready for the next step.
Washing your beard
We’ve already spoken about dirty beards in previous blog, so by now this should already be incorporated into your routine. Using a beard wash after exfoliation, 2-3 times a week will keep it clean, healthy and help to get rid of dirt, dust and any trapped food that’s managed to get caught up in the strands. Not to mention, your beard will look the part and smell good!
You can also use an exfoliating daily facial, which will naturally dissolve the dead skin that the brush has lifted. Try to avoid using exfoliating facial scrubs as the particles can become trapped in your beard and are very difficult to remove!
Hydrate!
I can’t stress this enough - a dry beard is an unhappy one. Dry beards cause terrible itch and a whole host of other problems, including prolonging its growth. So, once you’ve washed it, make sure to use your Constituted by Nature Beard Oil. This will soften, hydrate, and prevent your beard from becoming dry eliminating the itch so you can continue your day comfortably.
