Beard Grooming

When I started writing this blog, I realised that actually, there’s a lot that goes into grooming your beard, so I’ll give you the shorter version. I promise to break down each of the sections over the coming months. Growing a beard as I’ve said before, takes time and patience, however, the grooming and maintenance of it – that’s ongoing. Growing up, no one ever told us how to look after it and if you’re lucky to still have your dad around, maybe he’s shown you. However, it’s likely in his day, beards weren’t a thing and he’s just as clueless as you.

Caring for your beard is a process. Just the same as you’d take good care of your dream car, treat your beard the same. Neglecting it will only lead to a host of problems that believe me, you do not want. Here, I’ll give you a quick guide on how to properly look after your beard at home.

  1. Wash it regularly

Generally, I shower daily, so my beard gets wet daily. However, as a rule of thumb, try washing your beard 2-3 times per week with a trusted beard shampoo. The reason for washing 1-2 times a week is washing the beard too often can strip it of its natural oils and cause the beard to dry out, become brittle and break.

  1. Use the LOC method

The LOC method is commonly used now as part of natural haircare. LOC stands for Liquid, Oil and Cream – Here’s where our Constituted by Nature products come in handy. Once out of the shower and the beard is wet, this is the ‘liquid’ state of the LOC method. You’re also able to use a spray bottle to dampen the beard if you’re not grooming fresh out of the shower.

Next, you need to apply a pump or two (depending on the size of you beard) of the Constituted by Nature Extra Strength Beard Oil. This is enriched with nutrients to immediately condition the hair, strengthen hair follicles, and improve growth. After the ‘Oil’ stage you then apply the Constituted by Nature Beard and Hair Conditioning Cream to the lengths of the beard. As the cream is conditioning, it hydrates and replaces the minerals in order to create softness, detangle and tame.

  1. Groom using a comb or brush

Now that your beard is clean and moisturised, we need to make sure it looks neat. Beards can sometimes grow in strange ways, different direction, or maybe just won’t co-operate. This is where the grooming tools come in, to train and guide your beard to look exactly how you like it.

The essential tool that’s important to keep on you or near you is a Beard Comb. Regular combing helps to get rid of food particles as well as dust. It also helps to keep your beard moisturised by distributing the oil and cream throughout the hair. By combing your beard, you also help to tame the unruly hairs, which improves the appearance of your beard.

Brushing your beard with a brush is great for training your hair to grow in the direction you want and provides a ton of benefits to your skin and hair. The bristles are perfect for sweeping away dust and grime, evenly distributing the oil of your skin, and stimulating circulation in your scalp and face.

  1. Trim regularly

Trimming your beard regularly (every 3-4 weeks) is important as this helps to keep it looking neat and tidy as well as preventing flyaway split ends. It ensures that your beard complements your face every day, by giving it the shape that you desire.

  1. Styling

Styling your beard after a trim is generally the easiest part. All you need is our Constituted by Nature Beard Balm, which is made with natural organic yellow beeswax, that not only tames the beard and keep the hairs in place, also aids against itchiness and seals in moisture, giving your beard added hold.
